Two Texas convicts on death row lost their appeals

December 30th, 2011 · No Comments

Robert Lynn Pruett and Bobby Lee Hines, two Texas death row convicts, lost their appeals on Tuesday in the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Pruett was serving a 99 year sentence in prison for assisting his father and brother with a murder of his neighbor when he was 16 years old. He was later sentenced to death for killing a prison guard who didn’t allow him to bring his lunch to the recreation yard. Pruett petitioned habeas corpus to killing the guard, and the court denied the appeal.

Hines’ appeal by his lawyers that he is retarded did not hold up in court because the judges did not feel Hines met the standards that retarded convicts cannot be executed.
