The police chief in Bastrop has resigned after being charged with DWI last month in Austin.
According to officials with the Austin Police Department, Chief David Board was pulled over August 16 and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. The 46 year-old was police chief in Bastrop, about 25 miles southeast of Austin. He has held the position since 2002. His resignation was announced Tuesday by city officials.
Board was placed on leave following his arrest. He resigned Monday night, but will be allowed to remain on leave through the end of October in order to reach full retirement benefits.
