Former UT and current Cincinnati Bengal player Cedric Benson was arrested on Tuesday for an assault charge following a May incident on Austin’s Sixth Street. Benson was in a scuffle at Annie’s West Bar, where someone busted his lip open. When bar employees asked Benson to leave, he pushed one of them and yelled expletives at another.
NFL.com reports that, once outside, “Benson complained to people passing by that ‘all these white boys are ganging up on me and kicking me out.’” Bartender Bryan White responded by telling Benson that he would not take time out of his night just to kick Benson out. Benson responded by punching him in the face.
Benson’s story, released by his attorney, is different. He says that he thought the bartender was a friend of the person who hit him in the face, and that he punched him in self defense.
