North Austin community organizes neighborhood watch

May 13th, 2010 · No Comments

The Gracywoods Neighborhood Association put together a neighborhood watch to curb crime after a recent community meeting. According to the Association’s plan, neighbors are encouraged to get to know their five neighbors on either side of their house in order to create a safer network of communicating neighbors. In addition, the Association is requesting that all residents of the area keep a log of every crime, no matter how petty, that occurs in the area, and then report these crimes to the local authorities. The Neighborhood Association argues that these logs will let police know how to best distribute their resources, and therefore allow for more effective crime combating.

According to the North Austin community, the rates of crimes like prostitution, rape, burglary, and drug-related offenses have increased since the past year. They hope their initiative will curtail a crime rate that they see as rising northward from Rundberg Lane.
