A 26-year-old man admitted Thursday that he and his wife are addicted to cocaine and that their 3-month-old boy had been exposed to high levels of cocaine smoke. Both parents face child endangerment charges, authorities say, which could mean up to two years in state jail if they are convicted.
Extended secondhand exposure to crack cocaine smoke could cause the boy to lose the ability to maintain attention or even cause severe mental retardation, police said. Authorities say it is too early to know how the exposure affected the 3-month-old.
