A trial is set to start on Monday in federal court in El Paso for an El Paso County state judge accused of offering to trade sex and cash for help with felony cases.
State District Judge Manuel Barraza is facing multiple charges including mail fraud, wire fraud and lying to a federal agent. Barraza was originally arrested in April and accused of taking cash bribes and asking for sex from defendants. Barraza also allegedly asked an undercover FBI agent for sex.
Barraza was elected in November and took office in January. He has been free on bond since his arrest. Barraza has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
