Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation Unit officials are celebrating the biggest drug bust of the year after officer seized almost 3,300 pounds of marijuana from a tractor trailer at a truck stop in East County.

An SIU K-9 officer found the marijuana Tuesday night in an tractor trailer outside of the Flying J Travel Plaza truck stop. Deputies were checking the truck stop for various things, according to Lt. Phillip Cash.

“It’s common in rest areas to check. You get a lot of stolen vehicles… a lot of stuff. Most agencies will check rest stops and motels.” Said Cash.

The marijuana has an estimated street value of $1.32 million.

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.
