Odessan Woman Shoots Soldier

An woman in Odessa has confessed to shooting an army soldier on leave from Iraq while the two were in bed.

April Danielle Thompson, 24, is facing manslaughter charges after she killed 20 year-old Private Cody Ryan Patterson. The Hill County Sheriff said that the two had been socializing together during the day and ended up in be around 4 a.m. Saturday.

Hill County Sheriff Jeffery Lyon said that Thompson found the soldier’s .22 caliber revolver, but believed “it was a toy.” When Patterson informed her that it was a real weapon, but not loaded, Thompson cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger.

After shooting Patterson, Thompson fled to Glenrose. She was later apprehended by authorities, her bond has been set at $125,000.
