Mother & Son Charged with Cattle Rustling

October 13th, 2009 · No Comments

A Fort Worth-based rancher’s association discovered a mother and son who were allegedly cattle rustling in the Fort Worth area. The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association said 69-year-old Mary Horn of Lufkin sold 10 head of cattle at a cattle auction in Nacogdoches. The ten cattle were allegedly stolen by her son, 43-year-old Michael Terry.

Trinity County sheriff’s deputies arrested Terry, who had been free on bail for 2008 felony cattle theft charges. Horn was arrested on Monday. Brent Mast, a special ranger with the TSCRA, said both have been charged with theft of livestock.

“The victim was our biggest asset in this case,” Mast said. “He knew quickly that he had cattle missing by keeping track of his herd and was able to contact the TSCRA and the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department almost immediately. With his help, we were able to track the livestock down and make a quick arrest.”
