Houston Texan’s wide receiver Jacoby Jones will plead guilty to Driving While Intoxicated and enter a diversion program as a first time offender.
Jones’ attorney Chip Lewis said of the ruling, “It’s a two-fold benefit. First, it’s a great opportunity for him to put [the arrest] in a positive light. He’s going to do several public service announcements. And second, it illustrates to the community that this was just an aberration. He’s deserving of this agreement.”
Jones agreed to go to alcohol education classes and have an ignition interlock device placed on his car.
According to police reports, Jones was asleep behind the wheel with the car in drive, and his foot on the brake, when officers approached to arrest him on a charge of suspicion of drunken driving. He was arrested at around 3 a.m. March 16, 2008. Jones had a blood alcohol level of 0.13.
