3 Arrested for Mailing Drugs

May 8th, 2009 · No Comments

For the second time in a week, inspectors of the United States Postal Inspection Service have arrested several Texas men who are allegedly involved in mailing packages containing marijuana through the U.S. Mail system. United States Attorney Tim Johnson announced today that Jose Adan Lopez, 20, Damian Caballaro, 23, and Heriberto Emmanuel Vera, 32, were arrested on Wednesday. The men, all residents of McAllen Texas, were charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute at least 147 kilograms of marijuana since January 2009, and the use of a communication facility to move drugs.

All three defendants appeared before the United States Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos, and have been temporarily detained without bond pending a preliminary and detention hearings on Monday.

According to the allegations in an affidavit filed with the criminal complaint, through the drug interdiction program in McAllen, Texas, in March 2008, United States Postal Inspection Service inspectors found similarly wrapped packages containing marijuana in the U.S Mail. The marijuana in the packages had been wrapped in cellophane and was surrounded by dried chili peppers as a masking agent.
