New York Attorney Jailed for DUI

April 24th, 2009 · No Comments

A prominent New York attorney and frequent local Republican judicial hopeful is going to jail for fifteen days. Anne Adams, 46,  was arrested last September for driving drunk. Adams then attempted to avoid prosecution by obtaining a falsified blood alcohol test and getting a sitting judge to write a statement saying that she was not intoxicated when she was pulled over. The court granted James P. Harrington, Adams’ lawyer, 120 days to perfect his appeal of what he calls the unduly “harsh” 15 day sentence she received from a visiting judge.

In addition to jail time, Adams has lost her license to practice law in the state of New York. She was also sentenced to three years probation, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, and fined $395. The judge also ordered her to write letters of apology to her arresting officer and to the Western New York community.

State Supreme Court Justice Michael Griffith who heard the case called it “embarrassing and shameful.” The University at Buffalo Law School seems to agree, as they revoked Adam’s faculty position at the school.
