New Bill to Create State Level Racketeering Offence

February 24th, 2009 · No Comments

A new bill called the “Texas Racketeering and Corruption Act” is hoping to take a bite out of organized crime by going after money. The bill would create a state level racketeering offense and would allow seizure of assets and profits with a lower burden of proof.

Currently, seizures can occur in cities and counties by the local authorities, but if a crime spans several counties, prosecutors cannot initiate forfeiture proceedings. This bill would change that to allow for state level proceedings.

This bill could change the way that the state deals with organized crime. If you or someone you know is facing criminal charges, contact the Austin criminal attorney, Ian Inglis at 800-589-1808.
