The Austin Police Department has started using a new tool called Compstat in the last year. Compstat, short for computer statistics, has been useful in evaluating the best use of resources, including where to send patrols.
Since the instatement of this program, property crime has dropped by 3%, auto thefts have dropped by 10%, and violent crimes have dropped by 1%. However, there has been a 12% increase in commercial burglaries.
Through the use of this tool, it could be possible for the conviction rate to rise. If you or someone you know is facing criminal charges, contact the Austin criminal defense lawyer, Ian Inglis at 512-472-1950.
